COMPLIANCE SUCCESS STORY - From Frustration to Relief

How we helped a client break through and finally finish their Data Privacy Compliance Program.

Our new client felt frustrated and stuck. They had spent a lot of money on data privacy compliance advice, and had started to build a compliance program.

They’d been given high level information on compliance requirements, but were not given the tools and specific guidance they needed to develop and document all required compliance measures and finish the project.

Data privacy compliance can be challenging. There are many state, federal and international requirements that can apply, and the compliance processes and documentation that a particular organization needs to have in place will differ depending on the circumstances. As if that wasn’t difficult enough, data privacy laws tend not to be very clear on what you need to do to comply, and how to go about documenting your compliance processes.

To help our client break the logjam and move forward, we conducted a quick but detailed analysis of the compliance measures the client had already completed, and the tasks that still needed to be done.

We also identified a few things the client didn’t need to worry about based on current regulatory guidance, and set those aside.

  • We prioritized the remaining projects, and provided tools and templates that the client could use to document compliance.

  • We met regularly with the client to walk them through how to customize the tools for their business, to answer questions, and to keep the process moving toward completion as efficiently as possible.

The client’s legal team was relieved to finally be getting clear and actionable guidance, along with practical and useful tools to document compliance processes.

About 6 weeks into the project, the client’s General Counsel reported that she was thrilled with the quick progress, and was feeling like they would finally be able to finish the compliance program they’d been working on for such a long time.
